What are the aims of the Project? To create a safe and easy cycling, walking and riding route connecting Sowerby Bridge, Ripponden and Rishworth. The aim is to build a fully accessible Greenway, as far as practicable, on the disused railway line running from Sowerby Bridge to Rishworth. This Greenway will:
- encourage more movement of people between the two towns and villages
- encourage more journeys to be made on foot or on bike
- encourage a healthier lifestyle
- give people with young children and people with mobility issues a safe and accessible place to walk and/or cycle
- preserve the historic Victorian railway structures and use visual aids to educate people on the valley’s industrial industry
- give residents the option to travel to work in Halifax, Leeds and Manchester (via the train station at Sowerby bridge) without using their car
- encourage tourists to visit the area and grow the local economy by linking to the canal towpath network
